How Tampa Was First to Launch an Ambitious Connected Vehicle Deployment for USDOT
SUMMARY
Tampa was one of three sites in the nation to be selected for the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment Program β a program that seeks to spur innovation of connected vehicle applications.Β The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) wanted to determine if connected vehicle technology could play a major role in reducing collisions and improving traffic flow during peak hours in the areas that transition from expressway to surface streets. They assembled an implementation team that included Brandmotion Solutions to improve traffic safety for vehicles and pedestrians, and to decrease the commute time in Tampaβs Central Business District (CBD).
