As the winner of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) first-ever Smart City Challenge, Columbus, Ohio, is on a mission to be the model for connected cities in the United States. The vision of Smart Columbus is to empower residents to live their best lives through responsive, innovative, and safe mobility solutions.
Columbus was awarded $50 million in grant funding from the USDOT’s Smart City Challenge. The project, called the Connected Vehicle Environment (CVE), is seeking to serve as a model for other cities that intend to integrate connected vehicles into their transportation networks.
The City assembled an implementation team that included Brandmotion Solutions to implement a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) network. Thanks in part to Brandmotion Solutions’ deep connected vehicle expertise, the project will serve as a model for future Smart Cities.
This case study highlights the keys to success of the connected vehicle integrations in Columbus.
Our latest case study shows how Brandmotion led the integration and installation of vehicle-side onboard units.

Tampa was one of three sites in the nation to be selected for the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment Program — a program that seeks to spur innovation of connected vehicle applications.
The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) wanted to determine if connected vehicle technology could play a major role in reducing collisions and improving traffic flow during peak hours in the areas that transition from expressway to surface streets. They assembled an implementation team that included Brandmotion Solutions to improve traffic safety for vehicles and pedestrians, and to decrease the commute time in Tampa’s Central Business District (CBD).
Our latest case study shows how Brandmotion led the integration and installation of vehicle-side onboard units. Through our efforts, Tampa was the first city in the DOT study to launch vehicle deployment.

We did stuff that’s never been done before.” — Bob Frey, project manager for the CV pilot at Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA)
“The Team at Brandmotion has been knowledgeable, supportive and overall, very professional. We recently partnered the Brandmotion Team on a FullVUE Program for a mutual client with an order of 50 units. That order consisted of multiple vehicle types and several ordering cycles. Their sales team was diligent with communicating pricing and lead times, their production and fulfillment teams were consistent with their commitments and the whole process from beginning to end was very smooth. Our Team at Advanced Work Vans highly recommends Brandmotion as a partner for Driver-Assistance Systems.”
